I try to start the car and turn the key. The dash lights up, air blows and radio turns on as usual, but engine does not even blink...no response. I turn it off then back on again and it starts like a champ.

The fuel and temp gauges sweep up and then drop back to where they should be, and the various indicator lights come on temporarily - normally, this is the time that I will hear the fuel pump going, and then it cranks (and starts) when I turn the key further.Edited by M.J. Donald …Apr 13, 2012 · The car has a Neutral Safety Switch (Clutch Safety Switch) -- automatic or manual transmissions, respectively -- that disables starting the car unless the gear selector is placed in P or N, or the clutch is depressed. The electrics come on strong, but absolutely nothing happens when you turn the key to START. When I got to turn the key nothing happens. No lights no clicking no clock no nothing totally dead. It's a new battery. This is the second time it's happened within 6 months. Both times the car sat for 2 days without being driven. My mechanic says there is a short but does not have the equipment to figure it out. Any ideas?
