May 6, 2009. #1. i own a 1988 88 hp johnson spl motor that i am replaceing with. a new etec115 johnson.i need to know approx weight of this motor. i wanted to replace old motor with a same hp four stroke. but just about everyone i spoke with says the extra weight. may cause a problem.old engine is mounted on a alunimum stern bracket.the motor is an 1988 88 spl from what i can find i think it has the 6 amp stator if someone can tell me how to find this out for sure i would appreciate it. ... Seems that the fuel primer/enrichment solenoid was shot and was pumping gas into the carb all the time. (I'm assumming the control box is in neutral). The 20 amp fuse is on the motor in a red wire coming off the solenoid.
