I'd personally take a class with some ranged attack alongside paladin. If you're happy to respec completely go with whoever you want for story and spec whatever suits you. If you want to keep them as somewhat default classes Gale has ranged spells, Astarion is strong as a rogue/ranger multi class. 4..
